Discover LIFEPOWR’s eBalancing: real-time grid balancing with flexible tariffs. Save more, automate energy flows, and support a stable, green grid
In addition to rBalancing, LIFEPOWR also offers a second form of grid balancing: eBalancing, or Energy Market Balancing. This system focuses on the day ahead and the imbalance market and operates via compatible energy suppliers with a flexible tariff.
From reserved capacity to real-time control
Until recently, rBalancing was the standard way to participate in grid balancing via FlexiO. This involves reserving part of the battery capacity for the grid in advance. That model remains valuable, but it is not always flexible.
eBalancing changes that. This new form of balancing is done entirely in real time and allows users to dynamically control their installation based on current wholesale market prices. No pre-reserved capacity is required anymore.
What exactly is eBalancing?
eBalancing stands for Energy Market Balancing and always takes place in collaboration with an energy supplier. Energy suppliers are always responsible for keeping their customer portfolio in balance.
The demand for electricity and its production must always be in balance. If an energy supplier is unable to control this, the grid operator takes over this task (via rBalancing with assets reserved in advance). Since our grid operator charges the costs for rBalancing in the form of penalties to the energy supplier, the energy supplier in turn also charges risk margins on its energy prices.
At the end of the day, we as end users pay the costs associated with imbalance on the grid. Through a Flexible Tariff and eBalancing, we can convert these costs into a value stream, both for you and for the energy supplier!
Your installation is automatically controlled to keep the grid in balance and allow you to benefit from opportunities on the market.

Explanation of grid balancing
FlexiO applies the same logic to every form of grid balancing: does grid balancing yield more than local savings? Then we participate. Are your local savings worth more than the income from grid balancing? Then FlexiO does not participate.
Furthermore, any form of grid balancing can exhibit bizarre behaviour. For example, if the price for injection is negative, a power shortage can still occur on the grid, allowing your installation to inject during negative prices. Keep this in mind; it does not mean that your control system is not working properly!
How does it work in reality?
FlexiO continuously monitors the real-time status of our electricity grid. If there is a power shortage or oversupply, FlexiO can choose to respond to this if the prices are favourable. This could involve charging or discharging your battery, charging your EV or simply limiting your solar power.
The entire system works completely automatically and without compromising on comfort. You do not need to set anything up or manage anything manually. FlexiO takes care of everything for you, tailored to your consumption pattern and the market.
Who can participate in eBalancing?
Anyone with a flexible tariff from a compatible supplier, such as Trevion, can participate in eBalancing.
You will also need:
- A digital meter
- A FlexiObox (the EMS+ from LIFEPOWR) that intelligently controls your installation
- A controllable installation, such as a home battery, solar panels and/or charging station
Not sure whether your installation is eligible? Your installer can easily check this for you.
What are the benefits?
Thanks to eBalancing, you can get more out of your existing installation without having to do anything extra. You use your battery or charging station not only for your own consumption, but also to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the market. This reduces your energy costs and allows you to actively contribute to a stable and sustainable grid.
What's more, eBalancing is the ideal solution for those who want to take advantage of Flexible Rates, but don't want to have to constantly monitor them themselves. Full automation, maximum results.
